What We Do

• Engage with the General Assembly’s Church and Society Council and the work of the Social Care Council operating as Crossreach. 
• Considers issues which relate to the physical, social and moral wellbeing of people living within the bounds of the Presbytery, and is proactive in problems relevant to the Glasgow area. 
• Maintains links with social responsibility agencies in the Greater Glasgow Area 
• Considers and reviews education in schools, colleges and universities, keeping Presbytery informed on these matters and placing appropriate recommendations to Presbytery as required.  
• Encourages Christian input into education, including the study of Religious and Moral Education.   
• Promotes the rights and respect of young people and encourages the provision of religious observance in schools.  
• Encourages the appointment of school chaplains, supporting them in their work; and develops the work of chaplains in colleges and universities.  
• Considers how to improve Health and Wellbeing.  
• Prepares responses to requests for comments from Presbytery on educational proposals and current educational matters; and shows understanding of Scottish education and legislation e.g.GIRFEC (Getting It Right For Every Child).  
• Liaises with Church of Scotland representatives on the education committees of local authorities and on the General Assembly’s Education Committee and its successors. 
• Supports all God’s people to grow in experience, knowledge and confidence in their Christian faith and to develop their gifts.  
• Promotes the work of children’s ministry in congregations and areas, including providing assistance in the use of training materials.  
• Promotes area, regional and national events for children and children’s leaders. 
• Distributes grants for Holiday Clubs annually.  
• Promotes local, regional and national youth events, conferences and training courses. 
• Appoints Youth Delegates to the General Assembly.  
• Receives reports from the Presbytery Youth Development worker.  
• Identifies and responds to specific congregational needs by promoting and developing resources,  workshops and  events,  including elder training.  
• Promotes awareness of the range of Christian Education Resources for the whole church.

Christian Values in Education (CVE Scotland) is a Scottish charity / organisation that provides advice, networking and resources for teachers and for others who support schools (schools workers, parents, chaplains and churches). Recognised as a partner organisation by Education Scotland, our aim is to enable children and youth people to make informed choices about their beliefs and values.

The Well

'The Well' is a drop-in information and advice service, in particular serving the Pollokshields and Govanhill areas.  Staff and volunteers deal with a variety of issues from help with completing benefits forms to liaising with utility companies or simply providing a listening ear.  It is uniquely placed to build bridges between communities who might otherwise never interact.

Glasgow the Caring City

Glasgow the Caring City responds with compassion and humanity to disasters and relief efforts throughout the world, as well as providing support to causes closer to home.  From Afghanistan to Sri Lanka and Sudan to Manhattan, the charity's core value is a simple one - to provide help where it is required with no political motive.  The Caring City provides care, help and love to the most fragile and destitute at home and around the world.

Equal Futures

Equal Futures is a local charity helping to reduce social isolation for people with learning disabilities and autism. Their service is free of charge and they offer circles of support, 1 to 1 befriending and community social events for the people they support.  They are reaching out to local churches to see if there is a possibility of doing some partnership working. They are also looking for volunteers to help support their members. 

The Committee believes that this may well be a good fit for congregations that already have an active social outreach ministry or are planning to develop one.  Equal Futures’ local Project Coordinator is Stacey Burgess, at  Stacey.Burgess@equalfutures.org.uk
