Welcome to the Education web page!

This Team works with 5 Local Authorities (Glasgow: East Dunbartonshire: East Renfrewshire: North Lanarkshire: South Lanarkshire) to develop strong partner relationships, supports ministers and chaplains in working effectively within the Curriculum for Excellence and delivering best practice.  It also takes seriously pastoral issues concerning our young people in education, such as health and wellbeing.

Whether you are looking for good resources or wanting to understand how to work effectively with your local school, the Education Team are here to help.

What We Do

This committee works to:

  • Act as a link between Presbytery and the Council’s Education Committee
  • Advise on Educational initiatives as proposed by the Scottish Government
  • Encourage Christian input into education including chaplaincy, Religious and Moral Education and Religious Observance

The Education Team is committed to education for all, and believes that education continues to change lives for the better.

  • considers/reviews education in schools, colleges, universities, keeps Presbytery informed on these matters, puts appropriate recommendations to Presbytery when necessary
  • encourages Christian input into education, including study of Religious and Moral Education, promotes the rights and respect of young people: encourages the provision of religious observance in schools
  • encourages the appointment of school chaplains, supporting them in their work: develops the work of chaplains in colleges and universities
  • considers how to improve health and wellbeing
  • prepares responses to requests for comments from Presbytery on educational proposals and current educational matters, shows understanding of Scottish education and legislation e.g. GIRFEC (Getting It Right For Every Child)
  • liaises with CoS reps on education committees of local authorities and the GA’s education and young people's action group

Christian Values in Education (CVE Scotland) is a Scottish charity / organisation that provides advice, networking and resources for teachers and for others who support schools (schools workers, parents, chaplains and churches). Recognised as a partner organisation by Education Scotland, our aim is to enable children and youth people to make informed choices about their beliefs and values.
