Carmunnock Parish Church has worked with the local community to create banners of knitted, crocheted and sewn green hearts which will be prominently displayed in the village during COP26.

Around 50 people from the parish worked on the large banner which is made from repurposed material and is titled "Caring for Creation."  As part of their ongoing focus on sustainability, many of the children of Carmunnock Primary School's hearts included a pledge of one change they would make.  These have been added to a second banner that encourages the community to make its own pledges.

Fiona Crawford, Probationer Minister at Carmunnock Parish Church said, "The banners are part of the church's threefold focus this year to care for creation spiritually, physically and environmentally.  The nature of the project ensured that even those unable to come along in person were able to contribute hearts that others could sew on, so it was a real collaborative effort.

“The schoolchildren's pledges have prompted us to encourage the whole community to display a green heart in their window, making their own pledge of one change they will make.

“The number of hearts we received for the banners represents, I think, the passion within Carmunnock and the surrounding Braes to care for our environment.  We hope that collectively our small changes can make a bigger difference."
